Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) - Providence Bible College & Theological Seminary

The Doctor of Ministry is a professional degree designed to provide an intentional learning opportunity that:

a. Strengthens the student's personal life of faith;
b. Further develop professional competence in the practive of ministry;
c. Encourage growth in Biblical and Theological foundations of ministry.

The program seeks to integrate theological learning in the context of responsible ministry and service in the kingdom of God. The student may choose to concentrate on functional disciplines such as pastoral ministry, worship, church and society, and black church studies.

ADMISSION

Applicants for admission must hold a masters degree, have spent at least three years in ministry, and currently be involved in a ministry context. Applications for admission are available from the Dean of Administration and can be submitted at any time. Courses will be arranged to meet the needs of the student and can he individually coordinated, however certain core courses are mandatory and must be taken as part of the program. Those holding Masters degrees related to the field of Divinity (e.g., Religion. Theology, Bible, Ministry. Christian Education. Missions) are not required to have supplemental courses beyond the D. Min. requirements in the catalog. However, those who hold a masters degree outside of the field of Divinity are required to complete the Theological Studies Certificate (see below). Once admitted to the program, work for the D.Min. degree may normally he completed in three years of extensive study including completion of a doctoral project. All students are required to complete the degree within five years after beginning course work.

PREPARATORY STUDIES LEADING TO D.MIN. CANDIDACY

Designed to provide an overview of essential areas of thought relating to the Field of Divinity, these studies are a requirement for students with Masters degrees outside of the area of Divinity in order to be admitted to the D.Min. program. Course requirements are Masters level courses in Old Testament and New Testament Introduction (a course in each); OT & NT Hermeneutics (a course in each); Systematic Theology I, II & III; Church History I & II; Pastoral Ministry of the Church; Pastoral Counseling; Expository Preaching; Missions; Christian Education and Sovereignty of God.

For each course, a 25-page paper is required that examines the academic topic and relates the study to ministry.

CANDIDACY FOR THE DEGREE

Admission to the full D.Min. status is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the mandatory and elective courses totaling 36 quarter hours, and acceptance of the project proposal by student's faculty advisor and the D.Min. Committee. The degree is granted on approval of the project document by the D.Min. Committee.

COST
In addition to the regular application fee and credit hour costs as illustrated in the catalog, if the student is inactive during any quarter during the normal three-year program, there is a charge of $100 per quarter. If the student extends the program into the fourth or fifth year, there is a $300 maintenance fee charged per year or part thereof. Tuition fees are subject to change at any time.

MANDATORY COURSES (15 HRS.)

The mandatory curriculum includes five (5) courses. Each course offers 3 credit hours. The mandatory curriculum provides the student a peer learning experience with fellow D.Min. students studying in other seminaries around the country.
